The 2026 Oregon pheasant outlook

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife published its 2026 outlook in words.

2026-27 Game Bird Hunting Forecast, released September 11, 2026
Pheasant populations are up in eastern Oregon, which seems to be driven by good returns in the Mid-Columbia, Malheur, and Union districts. Pheasants were down in the Heppner, Umatilla, and Harney districts.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife releases pheasants. Release sites: Western Oregon fee hunts at Denman, E.E. Wilson, Fern Ridge and Sauvie Island WAs; youth hunts at the wildlife areas listed for each date. Release timing: Pheasants are released on the wildlife areas every few days during the fee hunting season.

Special pheasant hunts are scheduled at the following locations. Birds will be stocked throughout the season.

Hunting license $39.00 plus Upland Game Bird Validation (age 18 and older) $11.00; Western Oregon Fee Pheasant Permit $25.00 for the fee hunts
Nonresidents
Hunting license $193.00 plus Upland Game Bird Validation; Western Oregon Fee Pheasant Permit $25.00 for the fee hunts

Upland Game Bird Validation $11.00 (valid July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027)
