Can I See the Northern Lights Tonight?
One ZIP code, one answer: tonight's NOAA Kp against the Kp your sky needs, tonight's clouds, the moon, and how long it stays truly dark.
Four things decide whether you see the aurora tonight
Kp vs. your latitude
NOAA's planetary K-index (0–9) says how far the auroral oval has pushed south. Your geomagnetic latitude — higher in the East than the West — sets the Kp you need. This is the gate; nothing else matters if it isn't met.
Cloud cover 9 pm–3 am
Open-Meteo's hourly forecast at your point. Under 30% is good; thin high cloud still dims a faint display. The state pages show every dark-sky site's cloud so you can drive to the clear one.
The moon
A full moon washes out faint aurora but not a strong storm. Tonight's illumination is computed locally — plan faint-display hunts for the week around new moon.
Hours of full darkness
From sunset and sunrise at your location. In June the northern tier barely gets dark; in December it has 14+ hours. The score discounts short nights.

Northern lights forecast by state
Every state page has tonight's verdict for its main cities and dark-sky sites, the live aurora oval map, the Kp it needs, and the best places to watch from.
