Idaho trail conditions
Current Idaho trail conditions are published by Idaho Parks and Recreation. Trails close for a bridge out, a landowner withdrawing permission, a timber sale, thin base or open water, and those decisions are made locally by the club, county or district that maintains each trail, often day to day.

Idaho snowmobile season dates
Idaho publishes no statewide season. Grooming is run county by county out of the certificate of number fees, so the riding window is set locally and differs between the Panhandle, the McCall country and the Island Park side of the state.
Season dates are the legal window. Whether a trail is groomed or rideable on a given day depends on snow and on the club or county that maintains it.
Season window read from Idaho Parks and Recreation snowmobiling page on September 4, 2026.
Idaho registration and trail pass
One instrument does both jobs, and it is what gets checked on the trail. Visitors are generally not exempt from it.
| What it is | Amount | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Resident certificate of number | $45.50 | one year, Nov 1 to Oct 31 |
| Resident, two year | $89.50 | two years |
| Non-resident user certificate | $59.50 | one year |
| Non-resident, two year | $117.50 | two years |
| Rental machine | $75.50 | one year |
Idaho runs no separate trail pass. The certificate of number is the trail instrument, it is required of visitors as well as residents, and the state publishes where the money goes: $1.50 to the selling vendor, $1.00 to snowmobile search and rescue, and 85 percent to the county run grooming programmes. The buyer names the county they ride, and that is the county their fee grooms.
Permit rules read from Idaho Parks and Recreation snowmobiling page on September 4, 2026.
