Into the den

Bears in Oregon go into their dens between mid October and November.

In Idaho, black bears will enter dens from mid-October through November and emerge in midApril to May (Beecham and Rohlman 1994).

Idaho Fish and Game, Draft Black Bear Management Plan, read October 13, 2026. Its den months are used here for Oregon.

Out of the den

They come out between March and mid April.

Typically bears begin emerging early March and become fully active around the first or second week of April.
