Washington Christmas Tree Permits 2026

Five national forests and one BLM district cover Christmas tree cutting in Washington, and they do not charge the same. The Colville dropped its permit entirely beginning with the 2025 season: cutting there is free, two trees to a family. The Gifford Pinchot, Okanogan-Wenatchee and Olympic charge $5 a tree, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie $10, and the BLM Spokane District $5 with a $1 holiday reduction in 2025. Household limits run from two permits on the Okanogan-Wenatchee to five on the Gifford Pinchot, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie and Olympic. Maximum height is 12 feet on the Gifford Pinchot and 15 feet on the other three. Permits are sold on Recreation.gov, at ranger stations and at stores near the forests. The Umatilla National Forest also reaches into southeast Washington and sells through vendors in Clarkston, Dayton, Kennewick, Pomeroy and Walla Walla.

Where to get a Christmas tree permit in Washington

Washington state trust lands have no Christmas tree program: the Department of Natural Resources sells firewood permits and lists specialized forest products, but no Christmas tree permit.

Colville National Forest, Olympic National Forest and BLM Spokane District show the 2025 season, the most recent the forest has posted. Each forest posts its 2026 price and dates on its permit page in the fall.
