Oregon Christmas Tree Permits 2026

Eleven Oregon national forests sell Christmas tree permits and all of them charge $5 a tree. Most allow five permits per household; the Umatilla and the Umpqua hold it to one. Maximum tree height runs from 12 feet on the Deschutes, Malheur, Ochoco, Rogue River-Siskiyou and Siuslaw to 15 feet on the Fremont-Winema, Mt. Hood, Wallowa-Whitman, Umpqua and Willamette, and 14 on the Umatilla. Eight BLM districts sell their own $5 tags through forestproducts.blm.gov, cut to $1 for the 2025 holidays. Permits are also sold over the counter at ranger stations and at local stores across the state.

The free Christmas tree permit for Oregon fourth graders

A fourth grader with an Every Kid Outdoors pass can get a free Christmas tree permit from a national forest, and Deschutes National Forest, Malheur National Forest, Mt. Hood National Forest, Ochoco National Forest, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Siuslaw National Forest, Umatilla National Forest, Umpqua National Forest and Willamette National Forest say so on their permit page. The pass is free from the Every Kid Outdoors program, and the permit is redeemed on Recreation.gov with the pass number.

Students using the Every Kid Outdoors voucher can obtain their free Christmas tree permit by visiting a Forest Service office or on Recreation.gov. The student should check the box indicating they have a pass and enter the pass or voucher number (a $2.50 reservation fee will be applied).
