Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Wyoming Department of Family Services
The Wyoming Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible residents cover a portion of their monthly winter heating bills, receive help with heating emergencies, and improve their home's energy efficiency.Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Wyoming Department of Family Services, read September 23, 2026. A benefit paid straight to the fuel vendor, sized to the household's energy needs, income and family size, usable through May 31, 2027; a new application is required every heating season, and priority households with someone 60 or older, a child 5 or under, or a disabled family member may apply before October 1.
The LIEAP income test in Wyoming
The test is Total household income at or below 60 percent of the Wyoming state median, for homeowners, renters and people living in permanently parked RVs., measured against the state median income, so the qualifying figure moves with what households in that state actually earn.
Income is counted gross rather than after tax, and the household is everyone living at the address rather than everyone on the lease. Most states count the last thirty days or the last twelve months, not last year’s tax return, which means a household whose hours were cut in October can qualify in November on a year that looks too high on paper. Apply and let the agency do the arithmetic rather than ruling yourself out.
Who is eligible: You need to live in Wyoming, and your total household income must be at or below 60% of the state median. Homeowners, renters, and people living in permanently parked RVs can all apply.Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Wyoming Department of Family Services, read September 23, 2026. The crisis route in Wyoming
Crisis Intervention and Prevention Assistance covers utility deposits, shut off notices, broken furnaces and running out of fuel, and this season requires proof the household paid at least 10 percent of its gross monthly income toward fuel and utility bills in the past 60 days.
A crisis application and a regular one are different transactions on different clocks. A household with a disconnection notice, an empty tank or a dead furnace should start with this one, say plainly on the call what the emergency is, and have the notice or the delivery ticket to hand.
LIEAP's Crisis Intervention and Prevention Assistance helps households deal with emergencies like utility deposits, shut-off notices, broken furnaces, or running out of fuel.Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Wyoming Department of Family Services, read September 23, 2026. The two are separate: a heating grant is money and a shutoff rule is a restriction on the company. In several states an approved grant application is itself what satisfies the filing the shutoff rule asks for, which makes applying worth doing even for a household that thinks the grant will not cover much. The full rule, with Wyoming Public Service Commission’s own words, is on the Wyoming winter shutoff page.
Making the house cheaper to heat in Wyoming
Wyoming runs Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). It pays for the insulation and the air sealing rather than the bill, which is the only part of this that lowers next winter as well as this one.
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps make your home more energy efficient so you spend less on heating. This usually includes adding insulation, sealing leaks around doors and windows, and doing basic health and safety checks.Wyoming Department of Family Services, read September 23, 2026. In most states a household approved for the heating grant is automatically income eligible for weatherization, so the same paperwork does both. The waiting list is usually long and the work is usually free, which is a combination worth joining early rather than in the week it is needed.
