Florida Hunting License: $17.00, $22 With a Tag
In Florida the licence is $17.00 and the first deer costs $22
What a season in Florida actually costs to start
A resident hunting licence in Florida is $17.00, sold as the Hunting License. Hunting a deer on it means buying the Deer Permit as well, at $5.00, so the first day costs $22 rather than $17.00. That is 29% more than the licence price a search result would have shown. 39 of the 50 states read here work the same way.
- Resident licence $17.00, the Hunting License
- Nonresident licence $151.50
- First deer on top of it $5.00, the Deer Permit
- What the first morning costs $22
- The licence runs on a rule the agency does not print on its licence page
- Hunter education required of anyone born on or after 1975
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sells it through its own licensing system, which is where a fee change appears first.
Every Florida hunting licence, at the price Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission prints
Nine tags and permits were read off Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's own fee pages for Florida, each one priced below with the row it sits in. A tag is a second purchase, and the licence price on its own is the first half of what a season costs.

When a Florida hunting license expires Not published
Florida prints its licence prices without a sentence beside them saying when the licence stops working. The fee is on the page and the clock is not, so the expiry is a question for the agency rather than an answer on its website. 2 of the 50 states read here leave the clock off the fee page, while 9 run to 31 December and 9 give a full year from the day of sale.
The Commission labels its hunting licences annual, five year and lifetime, and gives fixed windows for two of the permits, but publishes no sentence on its own pages saying when an annual licence starts or stops.
Florida hunter education: born on or after 1975
Florida hangs hunter education on a birth date rather than on an age: the requirement reaches anybody born after 1975. Every state that publishes a cutoff publishes a different one, and across this reading they run from 1949 to 1986, which is why a national answer to this question is always wrong somewhere.
Florida requires the hunter safety course of anyone born on or after 1 June 1975 who is 16 or older before a hunting licence is sold, unless a deferral is used and the hunt is supervised.
Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, and 16 years or older, must pass a hunter safety course before purchasing a hunting license, unless using the deferral from the hunter safety certification requirement and hunting under the supervision of a qualified hunter.Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, read 23 September 2026. Who counts as a Florida resident
Florida defines a resident in its own words rather than by a count of days, and the definition is quoted below because the price on one side of it is rarely close to the price on the other.
For purposes of hunting in Florida, a resident is defined as any person who has declared Florida as his or her only state of residence as evidenced by a valid Florida driver license or identification card with both a Florida address and a Florida residency verified by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV).Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, read 23 September 2026. 39 of 50 states sell the animal separately from the right to hunt it
Florida works the way most of the country does. Of the 50 states read here, 39 sell the tag apart from the licence and 11 print it on the licence instead. Where the tag is separate, the middle state adds 95% to the licence price before anybody has left the driveway.
Resident licences across these states run from $10 to $64.54, and nonresident licences from $50 to $410, which is the widest spread on any licence this site has read. 25 states run a licence year of their own, 9 give a full year from the day of sale, and 9 end it on 31 December whatever month it was bought.
The national table puts Florida beside every other state on licence price, first tag, and the two added together.
