Arizona Park Road Opening Dates

Arizona is one of the states where the parks publish their dates in advance, so there is something real to plan against. Below: the normal season for every road, entrance, campground and visitor centre the parks here publish one for, drawn on a single calendar; the years of actual opening dates where a park keeps that record; and the link to the page where the park posts today. Every date carries the park's own last-updated stamp, read on 3 September 2026.

North Rim visitor season normally opens mid May, and the park will not put a date on it any tighter than that

Arizona, in one paragraph

North Rim visitor season normally opens mid May.

Opened 15 May in 2026, with campground reservations running to 15 October. Arizona has the sharpest split in the system. The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is open every hour of every day of the year and the North Rim, a few miles away across the canyon and 1,000 feet higher, is reachable only from mid May until Highway 67 closes with the snow. The North Rim is also still recovering from the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire.

The visual answer

Everything seasonal in Arizona, on one calendar

Check the park’s own page before you drive. Seasonal roads open when the plows get through and close again for storms, rockfall and fire, sometimes within the same week. What you get here is the normal season for each road and facility in the park’s own words, the years of actual opening dates the parks publish, and a link to the page where that park posts today. Every date on this page shows the park’s own last-updated stamp rather than ours.

These are the dates Grand Canyon North Rim published for the 2026 season, read on 3 September 2026. The park says of them: “Roads typically open at 8:00 a.m. on the first day. All dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions.”

“The South Rim of the park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The South Rim includes Grand Canyon Village and Desert View. Most services are available year-round.”

3 Arizona park seasons, and where each one comes from

The last column is the one nobody else shows you: the date the park itself last touched the page each season came from. Read a two-year-old stamp as the park saying nothing has changed, and a stamp from last month as the park saying something has.

Every seasonal road, entrance, campground and visitor centre in Arizona, ordered by when it normally opens. Each season is the park's own description from the park's own page. None of these is a current status.

Highway 67 from Jacob Lake to the North Rim. Highway 67 outside the park boundary is an Arizona Department of Transportation road, so the winter gate at Jacob Lake is ADOT’s, not the park’s.

Summarised from the state transport departments that run the highways outside park boundaries in our own words.
