Oregon Park Road Opening Dates
In Oregon the opening date is a plowing question, not a calendar question. Below: the normal season for every road, entrance, campground and visitor centre the parks here publish one for, drawn on a single calendar; the years of actual opening dates where a park keeps that record; and the link to the page where the park posts today. Every date carries the park's own last-updated stamp, read on 3 September 2026.
East Rim Drive normally opens mid June, and the park will not put a date on it any tighter than thatOregon, in one paragraph
East Rim Drive normally opens mid June.
Closes on 1 November or earlier, then reopens in plowed segments through spring. Oregon has one park in this vertical and it is the snowiest place in it. Crater Lake records an annual average of 41 feet of snow at park headquarters and 73 feet in its worst recorded winter, closes East Rim Drive and the North Entrance on 1 November or earlier, and reopens the rim in plowed segments through spring rather than all at once, so a May visit gets you part of a loop.
That season is Crater Lake National Park's own description, from a page the park stamps last updated August 17, 2026.
Everything seasonal in Oregon, on one calendar
- Opens on plowing progress
- Park published dates
- Fixed by rule each year
- Open year round, storm closures
Every road, entrance, campground and visitor centre in Oregon with a published season, ordered by when it normally opens. Bars are the park's own description, not a status and not a forecast. The colour says what governs the date.
Crater Lake National Park, Weather“Winters at Crater Lake are long and snowy. Storms from the Pacific Ocean dump an annual average of 41 ft (12.5 m) of snow at park headquarters. The park's tremendous snowfall is a result of its position at the crest of the Cascade Mountains.”

4 Oregon park seasons, and where each one comes from
The last column is the one nobody else shows you: the date the park itself last touched the page each season came from. Read a two-year-old stamp as the park saying nothing has changed, and a stamp from last month as the park saying something has.
| Road or facility | Park | Normal season | What sets the date | Park last updated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| North Entrance Road | Crater Lake | nine miles to North Junction, closing 1 November or earlier if the snow arrives first | Moves with the snow | August 17, 2026 |
| East Rim Drive7,100 ft | Crater Lake | closes on 1 November or earlier, then reopens in plowed segments through spring | Moves with the snow | August 17, 2026 |
| Pinnacles Road | Crater Lake | closes when East Rim Drive closes on 1 November, or earlier | Moves with the snow | August 17, 2026 |
| Highway 62 and Munson Valley Road to Rim Village | Crater Lake | open year round, though sections can shut intermittently in heavy snow | Storm closures | August 17, 2026 |
Crater Lake publishes its own status
Nothing on this site knows what a road is doing this afternoon, and nothing on this site pretends to. Each block below is the park’s own page, with what it carries and the caveats that go with it.

Every season and quotation on this page comes from a National Park Service page on www.nps.gov, read at build time on 3 September 2026 and shown with the park’s own last updated stamp rather than ours. NPS material is a work of the United States government and is in the public domain. Oregon is one of 7 states where the opening date turns on plowing progress.
