The four questions in one

Utah deer seasons, 2026-27

“When does deer season open” is four questions wearing one coat. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources dates mule deer seasons separately by weapon, so each one is below under the agency’s own name for it, with the zone rows exactly as the agency lists them.

The nine day October rifle hunt is the Utah deer season most hunters mean. For 2026 the Wildlife Board added an early five day hunt on twelve named units, which the division says is meant to reduce crowding and let hunters take deer and general season elk at the same time.

Nine days statewide between the archery and rifle hunts.

Youth deer season

no season

Utah holds no separate youth deer season. Utah's 2026 general season dates table lists youth hunts only for elk. The division allocates twenty percent of general season buck deer permits to youth and sells additional youth archery deer permits over the counter, but youth hunt inside the same general archery, muzzleloader and rifle windows as everyone else rather than on separate youth dates. Other Utah deer seasons the agency names

Beyond the four main windows, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources dates one further season for deer. They are reproduced here under the agency’s own names, because a hunter reading a calendar needs to know which window a tag actually covers.

Extended archery deer hunts

The extended archery areas are Utah's answer to deer in the urban corridor, and they carry the longest deer windows in the state.

Zones

Utah deer zones

Utah does not have a deer season. It has 2 of them, and the boundaries between them were drawn by Utah Division of Wildlife Resources along highways, rivers and county fragments rather than anything you can see from a stand. In several states those boundaries are not even the same from one weapon season to the next.

This page publishes the agency’s zone names and links the agency’s own zone map, which is where a hunter’s zone is determined. A wrong zone answer is a wrong season date.
