Green needles mean the tree is alive and off limits, and occupied wildlife trees stay standing.

Keep in mind that a dead tree is one that does not have any green needles on it; otherwise, it is considered a live tree. Do not cut a tree with visible signs of wildlife using it as a home.

Moving firewood

Can you bring firewood into Nevada?

Nevada has a quarantine on the books, which means untreated firewood from outside the line may not come in. The rule is written by the Nevada Department of Agriculture, and it sits below in its own words.

Quarantine

Nevada restricts moving firewood into or within the state.

Nevada quarantines firewood that comes from areas on the State Quarantine Officer's list. Wood from a listed area may not enter the state unless it was heat treated to a stated core temperature, a treatment certificate reached the department first, and the wood is labeled or carries a delivery ticket.

Certified or treated wood
Heat treated and certified wood may come in
A quarantine is hereby established on firewood that originates in an area described in subsection 2 to prevent the introduction or spread of any invasive species in this State.

What the rule says

The rule covers any unprocessed wood cut for burning, not just packaged bundles.

“Firewood” means unprocessed kindling, logs, timber or any other portion of a tree of any species that:

Heat treatment means a stated core temperature held for a stated time, verified by sensors.

The heat treatment for firewood required by NAC 554.858 must be conducted in a manner that raises the core temperature of the firewood to 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71.1 degrees Celsius) or more for 75 minutes or more, as verified by sensors placed in the coldest part of the kiln or heating apparatus, as determined by the affirming official.
