How New Hampshire counts a snow day
The school year
New Hampshire requires 180 days or the required hours: 450 in kindergarten, 945 in grades 1 to 6 and 990 in grades 7 to 12.
“The school board of every district shall provide standard schools for at least 180 days in each year, or the equivalent number of hours as required in the rules of the department of education”RSA 189:1; N.H. Admin. Rules Ed 306.15
Making up a lost day
Lost time must be rescheduled with added hours before a district can ask for a waiver of the hours requirement.
“Schools shall use additional hours to reschedule lost instructional time before requesting a waiver of the amount of instructional time under RSA 189:2.”Source
Remote days that count
Remote learning counts toward the required instructional time when bad weather makes it unsafe to transport students, with no cap stated in the rule.
“Remote learning shall satisfy the requirements of RSA 189:1 and RSA 189:24 under the following conditions: (1) When inclement weather makes it unsafe to safely transport students to or from in-person instruction;”N.H. Admin. Rules Ed 306.18(c)(1), Ed 306.15(f)
Delayed starts
Kindergarten sessions canceled by a delayed opening or early release for older grades do not have to be made up; the rule says nothing about whether a delayed day counts for grades 1 to 12.
“There shall be no requirement to reschedule instructional time for kindergarten if morning or afternoon kindergarten sessions are cancelled due to delayed opening or early release for students in grade 1 or higher.”Source

How many snow days New Hampshire districts plan for
8 New Hampshire districts print a number of snow days on their own 2026 to 2027 calendars. A closing inside that number leaves the calendar as printed; one past it is made up, usually from a break or the end of the year.

Snow a winter and 4 inch mornings come from each district’s nearest NOAA weather station over ten winters. Built in days are the district’s own, read from its calendar. Every linked district has a page with its live odds, its snow record and its schools.
