How Connecticut counts a snow day
The school year
Connecticut requires at least 180 days and 900 hours of actual school work, counting no more than 7 hours a day.
“Each school district shall provide in each school year no less than one hundred eighty days of actual school sessions for grades kindergarten to twelve, inclusive, nine hundred hours of actual school work for full-day kindergarten and grades one to twelve, inclusive”Conn. Gen. Stat. § 10-16
Remote days that count
A remote learning day counts as an actual school session if it meets the Commissioner's remote learning standards; the statute sets no cap.
“Remote learning shall be considered an actual school session for purposes of this section, provided such remote learning is conducted in compliance with the standards developed pursuant to subsection (b) of section 10-4w .”Conn. Gen. Stat. § 10-16 (P.A. 21-46, June Sp. Sess. P.A. 21-2)
Delayed starts
On a weather delay or early dismissal, a district with separate morning and afternoon half-day kindergarten may hold just one of the two sessions; the statute does not address older grades.
“If weather conditions result in an early dismissal or a delayed opening of school, a school district which maintains separate morning and afternoon half-day kindergarten sessions may provide either a morning or afternoon half-day kindergarten session on such day.”Source

How many snow days Connecticut districts plan for
5 Connecticut districts print a number of snow days on their own 2026 to 2027 calendars. A closing inside that number leaves the calendar as printed; one past it is made up, usually from a break or the end of the year.
