How Fairfield calls a snow day
When the call comes
By 5:30 am, with the process starting as early as 4:30 am.
“Still, the decision is not an exact science, and must be made by 5:30 am for both a delayed (2‐hour) opening and closure.”Source
How families hear
By the district website, the district app, radio and local TV.
“The following methods of communication will be used for notification of school closures and delayed openings: 1. FPS Website 2. ParentSquare 3. Radio: Local Stations 4. TV: Cablevision Channel 12”Emergency Alerts
A 2 hour delay
On a delay morning every school starts 2 hours late.
“If it appears conditions will be safe with a delayed opening, then schools open 2 hours late and the bus schedule is adjusted accordingly. Dismissal is at the usual time in the afternoon, even if the opening of school is delayed.”
Making up a lost day
First 5 snow days extend the year; more come out of April Break starting April 16.
“The first 5 snow days will extend the length of the school year. Additional snow days will reduce the April Break beginning with April 16th.”Source
