Will Omaha close tomorrow?
How Omaha calls a snow day
When the call comes
The night before whenever possible; otherwise as early as possible in the morning.
“Whenever possible, our district will announce changes to a daily routine the night before. We also know weather conditions and other emergencies can develop rapidly and a morning decision may be necessary.”Source
How families hear
By email, text message, phone call, the district website and local TV.
“That communication arrives through email, text message and phone call. Families should ensure their contact information is current in Infinite Campus. We also share the information on our website and through local news media.”Weather Procedures - Omaha Public Schools
A snow day is a day off
Omaha closes rather than going remote.
“When needed, our district will call a “School Closure.” On a “School Closure” day, there is no remote learning or activities assigned for students to do at home.”Source

How Nebraska counts a lost day
Nebraska requires at least 1,032 instructional hours for elementary grades and 1,080 for high school. At the State Board's discretion, a district that closed for severe storms or epidemic sickness keeps its accreditation and state aid, after the board secretary files a sworn statement if fewer hours will be offered.
