Olentangy Local School District Snow Day Predictor

When the call comes

The night before whenever possible, otherwise by 5:30 a.m.

“The superintendent reviews all of the reports and makes the decision to close or delay school by 5:30 a.m. If a delay updates to a school closure, the decision to close will be communicated by 7:30 a.m. that morning.”

How families hear

By phone call, radio, local TV, the district website, social media, email, text message and the district app.

“A phone message is sent out using Olentangy’s mass notification system. We also immediately notify local radio and television stations and post a message on the district’s website, Instagram account (@olentangylocalschools) and the District's Facebook page.”

A 2 hour delay

On a delay morning every school starts 2 hours late.

“Two-hour delays do not affect dismissal times. During a delay students are offered normal lunch service, although the timing of their lunch periods may be altered slightly.”

Making up a lost day

The school year is extended only if calamity hours exceed the state minimum.

“In the very unlikely scenario where we miss more school hours due to calamity days than the state's minimum requirement allows, the district would then extend the school year by whatever difference remains to meet the state’s minimum hour requirements.”
