The Parma playbook

How Parma calls a snow day

How families hear

By phone call, email, the district website, social media, local TV and radio.

“If school is called off because of inclement weather, the district will notify parents and staff by phone and email.”
Communications - Parma City School District (Snow Day/Calamity Day Information)

Making up a lost day

No make up expected: students attend more than the state minimum hours, so snow days should not have to be made up.

“School can be closed because of bad weather, but because PCSD students attend school more than the minimum number of hours, we should be able to handle any snow days and not have to make them up.”

The Ohio rule

How Ohio counts a lost day

Ohio requires hours, not days: 910 hours for full day kindergarten through grade 6, 1,001 hours for grades 7 to 12, 455 for half day kindergarten. Only hours that drop a school below the state minimum must be made up, by extending the school year.
