How Burlington calls a snow day

How families hear

By phone call, email, text message, local TV, radio, the district website and social media.

“Local TV and radio stations, our website, and BSD's social media channels will also list closings. Automated announcements will be sent via some combination of telephone calls, emails, and text messages.”

Making up a lost day

June 16, 2027 is the earliest last day for K-12, so closures push it later.

“BSD’s first day of school will be August 26th, with the earliest last day planned for June 16th.”

The Vermont rule

How Vermont counts a lost day

Vermont requires at least 175 student attendance days a year, with the school board setting the length of the day. A school closed for a cause beyond the board's control may petition the State Board for a waiver, filed within 10 days of each closing and by June 15; if granted the district is treated as having met the requirement.
