Trout Stocking in Arkansas

Catchable rainbow trout in about fifty Family and Community waters plus the White and Norfork tailwater fishery. AGFC publishes its stocked waters as names rather than coordinates, so the agency’s own stocking report is where to look them up. Every figure here was read from the agency's own page on September 3, 2026.

Where the stocking answer lives. Which agency publishes the stocking record for your state, what that record covers, the season opener where the agency has actually published one, and a link straight to the page that governs. Regulations and licensing are the agency’s, and every state page links it.

5,227 stocked waters from the 7 agencies that publish theirs with coordinates, plus Montana FWP’s dated stocking events live. Registry built September 3, 2026.

The source that governs

Where Arkansas publishes its stocking record

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission publishes the trout tailwaters, the Family and Community Fishing Program winter stockings and the weekly report that names recent stockings. It comes out as weekly through the fishing report, which is the cadence to plan around: anything faster than that is not being published, and anything on this page is older than that by definition.

Season

How AGFC sets the Arkansas trout season

Most states do not publish a single dated statewide trout opener. Here is exactly what AGFC does publish.

No season opener

No bar is drawn here because AGFC has published no dates for this site to draw. Drawing one anyway would be a guess with a calendar around it.

This state runs no trout season opener; the water is open on the agency's own terms year round.

Arkansas trout water is tailwater, cold all year below Bull Shoals, Norfork and Greers Ferry, so the fishery does not open and close on a date.

Where to look

Where to find Arkansas stocked waters

AGFC publishes which waters it stocks. What it does not publish is those waters as coordinates, and a stocking list that reads “Spring Creek, Centre County” is perfectly good for a person with a map and completely useless for a distance ranking. Only 7 agencies publish geodata: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Utah.

This site could geocode Arkansas water names into coordinates and put pins on a map. It does not, because that process quietly invents precision: two creeks share a name, a river reach becomes a point, and the reader gets a map that looks authoritative and is wrong in ways nobody can see. The agency's own list is better than anything that could be rebuilt from it here.

How Arkansas does it

The Arkansas trout programme

Arkansas runs two trout programmes that barely resemble each other. The White River and Norfork tailwaters are a nationally known year round fishery kept cold by dam releases. The Family and Community Fishing Program is put and take in city ponds, stocked with catchable rainbows through the winter because the water is only cold enough then. Hatchery trouble is part of the story the commission tells openly, including flood damage at the Jim Hinkle Spring River hatchery and losses at the federal Norfork hatchery.

What goes in, and when. Catchable rainbow trout in about fifty Family and Community waters plus the White and Norfork tailwater fishery. November through February in the Family and Community ponds; year round in the tailwaters.

How this record was checked. Trout programme page confirmed to resolve on 2026-09-03; programme detail read from AGFC's own pages through a search restricted to agfc.com. No stocking calendar is republished because AGFC publishes recent stockings through its weekly fishing report rather than as a forward schedule.
