Trout Stocking in Colorado
Catchable trout of about ten inches, on top of a large wild and native trout programme. CPW publishes its stocked waters as names rather than coordinates, so the agency’s own stocking report is where to look them up. Every figure here was read from the agency's own page on September 3, 2026.

Registry built September 3, 2026Where Colorado publishes its stocking record
Colorado Parks and Wildlife publishes where catchable trout of about ten inches were recently stocked, with the Colorado Fishing Atlas for the waters themselves. It comes out as updated every Friday during the fishing season, which is the cadence to plan around: anything faster than that is not being published, and anything on this page is older than that by definition.

How CPW sets the Colorado trout season
Most states do not publish a single dated statewide trout opener. Here is exactly what CPW does publish.
No bar is drawn here because CPW has published no dates for this site to draw. Drawing one anyway would be a guess with a calendar around it.
This state runs no trout season opener; the water is open on the agency's own terms year round.
Colorado has no statewide trout opener; most waters are open all year and the limits are ice, altitude and access.

Where to find Colorado stocked waters
CPW publishes which waters it stocks. What it does not publish is those waters as coordinates, and a stocking list that reads “Spring Creek, Centre County” is perfectly good for a person with a map and completely useless for a distance ranking. Only 7 agencies publish geodata: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Utah.
This site could geocode Colorado water names into coordinates and put pins on a map. It does not, because that process quietly invents precision: two creeks share a name, a river reach becomes a point, and the reader gets a map that looks authoritative and is wrong in ways nobody can see. The agency's own list is better than anything that could be rebuilt from it here.
Catchable trout of about ten inches, on top of a large wild and native trout programme. The window CPW describes is: through the fishing season, high country waters as the ice leaves them.

The Colorado trout programme
Colorado is the rare western state where the stocking report is a weekly rhythm rather than a season. It goes out every Friday through the fishing season and covers catchable trout of around ten inches, which is the fish stocked to be caught rather than to establish anything. Behind it sits a much larger native and wild trout programme, including cutthroat recovery work, that the stocking report does not describe.
What goes in, and when. Catchable trout of about ten inches, on top of a large wild and native trout programme. Through the fishing season, high country waters as the ice leaves them.

How this record was checked. Fish Stocking Report page fetched and confirmed on 2026-09-03, title "Fish Stocking Report | Colorado Parks and Wildlife". The weekly Friday cadence and the ten inch catchable size are CPW's own statements.
