Trout Stocking in Georgia

Weekly stockings from April to the end of July, twice more before Labor Day, then once in the fall. Georgia DNR publishes its stocked waters as names rather than coordinates, so the agency’s own stocking report is where to look them up. Every figure here was read from the agency's own page on September 3, 2026.

Where the stocking answer lives. Which agency publishes the stocking record for your state, what that record covers, the season opener where the agency has actually published one, and a link straight to the page that governs. Regulations and licensing are the agency’s, and every state page links it.

5,227 stocked waters from the 7 agencies that publish theirs with coordinates, plus Montana FWP’s dated stocking events live. Registry built September 3, 2026.

Where Georgia publishes its stocking record

Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division publishes the streams stocked in the current week, by county, with a companion table of each water's stocking frequency. It comes out as weekly, with an email edition, which is the cadence to plan around: anything faster than that is not being published, and anything on this page is older than that by definition.

Season

How Georgia DNR sets the Georgia trout season

Most states do not publish a single dated statewide trout opener. Here is exactly what Georgia DNR does publish.

No season opener

No bar is drawn here because Georgia DNR has published no dates for this site to draw. Drawing one anyway would be a guess with a calendar around it.

This state runs no trout season opener; the water is open on the agency's own terms year round.

Georgia's trout waters run on a year round season on most streams, with the division publishing the exceptions in its own regulations.

Where to look

Where to find Georgia stocked waters

Georgia DNR publishes which waters it stocks. What it does not publish is those waters as coordinates, and a stocking list that reads “Spring Creek, Centre County” is perfectly good for a person with a map and completely useless for a distance ranking. Only 7 agencies publish geodata: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Utah.

This site could geocode Georgia water names into coordinates and put pins on a map. It does not, because that process quietly invents precision: two creeks share a name, a river reach becomes a point, and the reader gets a map that looks authoritative and is wrong in ways nobody can see. The agency's own list is better than anything that could be rebuilt from it here.

How Georgia does it

The Georgia trout programme

Georgia publishes something most states do not: a frequency table saying how often each individual water gets stocked, set by the size of the water, how hard it is fished and how warm it gets in summer. That last factor is the whole story of trout in the southern Appalachians. The heavily stocked waters include Holly Creek in Murray County, Johns Creek in Floyd County and the Tallulah River in Rabun County.

How this record was checked. Trout page confirmed to resolve on 2026-09-03, title "Trout Fishing | Department Of Natural Resources Division"; the weekly report PDF and the stocking frequency document were read from georgiawildlife.com and gadnr.org through a search restricted to those domains.
