Trout Stocking in Connecticut

More than 500,000 trout between March and May in the 2026 spring run. CT DEEP publishes its stocked waters with coordinates, so the box below ranks the 302 of them nearest a ZIP code with the distance on every row. Every figure here was read from the agency's own page on September 3, 2026.

Where the stocking answer lives. Which agency publishes the stocking record for your state, what that record covers, the season opener where the agency has actually published one, and a link straight to the page that governs. Regulations and licensing are the agency’s, and every state page links it.

5,227 stocked waters from the 7 agencies that publish theirs with coordinates, plus Montana FWP’s dated stocking events live. Registry built September 3, 2026.

The source that governs

Where Connecticut publishes its stocking record

Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection publishes a Stocked column dated as each location is stocked, a Daily Cast note, and a map showing days since each water was last stocked. It comes out as dates added daily as locations are stocked, which is the cadence to plan around: anything faster than that is not being published, and anything on this page is older than that by definition.

How CT DEEP sets the Connecticut trout season

Most states do not publish a single dated statewide trout opener. Here is exactly what CT DEEP does publish.

Published by the agency

No bar is drawn here because CT DEEP has published no dates for this site to draw. Drawing one anyway would be a guess with a calendar around it.

The agency sets its seasons water by water or inside its own regulations, and publishes them there.

Connecticut restructured its trout seasons in recent years and publishes the current season structure in its own fishing guide rather than as a single opener date.

What is in the Connecticut stocked water registry

Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is one of only 7 agencies in the country that publishes its stocked waters as geodata, which is the only reason a distance ranking for Connecticut is possible here at all. This is the composition of that list.

  • 184 streams
  • 118 waters (kind not labelled)

302 waters, counted from Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s own published layer and committed to this site on September 3, 2026. A row means the agency lists this water as one it stocks. It is not a statement that fish are in it today.

How Connecticut does it

The Connecticut trout programme

Connecticut answers the question this whole vertical is about better than almost anyone: its stocking map shows days since each waterbody was last stocked, which is the number an angler actually wants and the number nobody else publishes. Trout Parks get a stocking roughly every ten days through spring and again in the fall. The division is also honest that the schedule slips, because not every location can be reached on every run.

What goes in, and when. More than 500,000 trout between March and May in the 2026 spring run. March to May, then a fall round in September and October as water cools.
